Episodes 36 & 37

So, life got interesting over the past two weeks and we weren't able to produce an episode.  To make up for it, we released two episodes this week.

First is episode 36.  Here, Panda and myself discuss Sony's VR announcements, their biggest competition, and the sick things you people do with your 3DS.

Episode 36 The Future is Now

In episode 37, we say farewell to a longtime friend of the show.  Rory has decided to leave Arizona behind him but not before taking one last trip to the recording studio.  In this one, Panda, Rory, and myself debate digital versus physical content, if it even matters which console you have anymore, and share a few fond memories.  Until next time buddy, you will be missed.

Episode 35 Make Dungeons Great Again

The newest episode of the podcast is live!  Beef is on vacation in New Zealand so Panda and I needed to manage without him.  In this episode we discuss the first episode of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?  We follow that up with Zootopia and all of its glory.  Seriously, if you haven't seen this movie yet, you need to get around to it.  We then discuss the state of media and the ridiculous argument that all media should be punished for the sins of one.  We wrap it up with giving our thoughts of Super Nintendo games on the New 3DS.  Check it out and let us know what Super Nintendo games you would like to see make their way to the Virtual Console.

Happy New Year!

So, in the craziness of the holidays we decided to take a little break from the blog, but now we're back and better than ever.

First, the newest episode of the podcast is up and ready to be listened to:

Episode 26 Adaptations

This is our adaptations episode, it can be books, comics, movies, video games, or whatever based off another source material.  We discuss our favorite and least favorite adaptations over the years.  Also, don't be shocked if this becomes a reoccurring subject.  We had a lot to say.

Next, one of our newest projects is streaming on twitch.  Our first official stream was our spoilercast of Star Wars The Force Awakens.  Check out the video below:

Also, I think it goes without saying but spoilers for Star Wars The Force Awakens.
We really enjoyed streaming and expect to see much more of it from us in the future.  Well, you're pretty much caught up.  Keep checking us out for updates and new episodes!

Star Wars and Twitch

Similar to the rest of the world, the West Coast Nerd Corps crew has come down with Star Wars fever.  Check out this weeks episode where we discuss our favorite Star Wars memories, give spoiler-free impressions of The Force Awakens, lament the expanded universe, and much more.

Episode 24: Star Wars

On a personal note, I feel that this is one of our best episodes to date, so make sure to tell your friends.

Now, on to our second piece of news.  We have recently set up a Twitch.tv channel.  We're still experimenting with different media formats and want to find what we like best.  Twitch is a website that allows people to stream video games live while viewers can comment and participate with the broadcaster.  We have a small list of games we intend to stream and I think you will be surprised by a few.  Also, we will be taking suggestions (just keep in mind it needs to be a game that can be played on the PS4).  Go to the link below and follow the channel if you want to be notified when we broadcast.  We are also planning on putting the recordings up on YouTube, but still working on the logistics.

Fan Fest and Game of the Year

This past Sunday, Rory and I went to Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest.  Long time listeners of ours may remember that our first episode was all about Phoenix Comicon.  Fan Fest is a smaller more intimate gathering.  Listen to our adventures in this weeks episode of the podcast.  After that we discuss our game of the year selections and why some games got left off.  Tune in and let us know what you think.

Episode 22: Fan Fest and GOTY

Exterminate... bordom

He looks pretty good considering he works for Sander Cohen

Transform and roll out!

I'm glad to see the Winchesters are prepared

Episode 21 The Big O and Beef Show Reunion Special

This week Panda was out of town, so look forward to hearing about her adventures in LA next week.  But this week, you have the glorious return of the Big O and Beef show.  As I'm sure none of you know, Beef and I did a very short lived YouTube show six years ago (Picture and Link below).

Big O and Beef Show

For the podcast this week, we decided to bust out one of our old unused scripts.  Have you ever had a game that everyone loved but you couldn't get behind?  What about a game you loved but you seemed to be the only one?  Join myself and Beef as we discuss the most under and overrated games on our lists.

Episode 20: The Future is Here, Today!

As far back as I can remember movies, video games, and television shows have told us what the future was going to be like.  Generally, they involved flying cars, robots, and zero gravity sports.  But the future is here and we don't have any of that stuff.  What went wrong and what can be done to fix it?

RAD Chat Episode 1

This week we're taking a bit of a break from the normal to post the first episode of RAD Chat.  This is the West Coast Nerd Corps Fallout themed podcast.  Join Rory and I as we talk about previous Fallout games and swap stories about Fallout 4.  How does Boston differ from DC?  Is the crafting system a good improvement?  Will we ever find our son or will he just need to grow up as a raider?  The answers to these questions and much much more in episode 1 on RAD Chat:

RAD Chat Episode 1

Also, I decided to finally take advantage of the PS4's screenshot taking abilities.  Here are some of the random things I've come across.

(Seeing the Sun for the first time in 200 years, probably pretty accurate to how most of the players feel after they're done)

(A glimpse of the perks chart)

(The Hero the wasteland deserves)

(Cowboy Curtis of Boston)

(That's no way to get ahead in life)

(I've heard of being bored to death at church, but it's usually not the preacher)

(Sorry man, I'll knock next time)

Look forward to new episodes of RAD Chat coming every few weeks.  We need more time to build up our stories and such.

Episode 19 and Platinum Spirit Round 2

Two weeks ago Panda wandered over to Tucson for TusCon.  Then, last weekend Panda and Big O went to Flagstaff for Kikori Con.  Listen to our newest episode to hear all about our grand adventures in the South and North of Arizona.

Episode 19: Con Artists

Also, I announced Platinum Spirit Round 2.  And the lucky winner this time is...

I don't know if it's just because I hate myself or what.  Sony recently announced that all the people who have achieved the platinum trophy will get an exclusive Playstation theme.  The only way to get this theme is to have the platinum trophy in Bloodborne, so I'm going for it.  I don't have a lot of trophies to go but the ones that I do have are doozies.  But I am determined, and I'll need that determination to carry me through.  Follow my progress on our Twitter page and root me on, or call me an idiot.  Either are valid responses.

Episode 18 The Future is Now!

Virtual reality is something I've dreamed about since I was a kid.  The idea of being in the video game was always my biggest fantasy.  This week Big O, Beef, and Panda discuss what they are expecting once VR is released.  Also listen to us tripping on coffee.  Halloween is over and we're ready to get back to business as usual.

Episode 17 Horror Month Conclusion and Platinum Spirit

The finale of Horror Month is upon us.  I know you're all sad, but all good things must come to an end.  In the comments, let us know what you thought of the episodes.  Do you want us to do this again next year?  Did we leave anything out that we should cover next time?

So, it turns out getting the platinum trophy in Lego Marvel Superheroes took a lot less time than I thought.

There it is, in all of it's glory.  It was a really great feeling knowing that I had completed everything possible in a game and live-tweeting was a lot more fun than I expected.  I think I might make this a recurring series.  I'm still deciding what game will be next.  I'm leaning toward The Order 1886, but we'll see.  Let me know if you have any suggestions in the comments.  Until next time!

Episode 16 and Platinum Spirit Update

Our third episode of Horror Month is posted and in the bag.  Speaking on a personal note, I feel this is one of the better episodes we've ever done.  In this one we talk about horror video games, movies based of horror video games, Uwe Boll, and Panda shares a scary story from her college days.

Also, last week I did a post about my quest to hunt for a platinum trophy.  If you haven't read it yet, feel free to go check it out.  I wanted to give an update on that.  I've been making some progress and live-twetting it as I go.  Go check out the WCNC Twitter page for more info:

Finally, the last plug of the post.  We made a West Coast Nerd Corps Instagram account.  Check it out for behind the scenes photos of our wacky adventures:

Horror Month is in Full Swing

Horror Month is official here and we are in full swing.  Check out our first episode of the month for our thoughts on scary movies.  We are huge fans of everything horror, but there is something special about the feeling we get while watching a scary movie with the lights off.  Whether it's so bad it's funny or shakes you to your core, horror movies touch us in special way.

Episode 14: Horror Month The Beginning

Each year, the members of the West Coast Nerd Corps like to pick a scary game to play while going through October.  This year, I decided to play a Nintendo DS title that is quickly becoming a horror/thriller classic:

999 was released in America in 2010 and is the first in what is known as the Zero Escape series (look forward to the sequels in the following years).  I've always heard great things so I look forward to playing it and giving you my impressions later in the month.  The rough story is that you are placed on a sinking cruise ship along with eight other people as part of a game.  Now they must solve a series of puzzles to make it out in one piece.  Obviously, drawing inspiration from the Saw franchise, this game should offer twist and turns to keep you interested to the very end.  I'm actually very excited to start this game and look forward to sharing my experiences with you lovely people.

As for my trusted colleagues, Beef has decided to tackle Outlast

This is a first person horror/stealth game released in 2013, and is still known as one of the best modern horror games to come out.  You play as a journalist following a scoop in a strange psychiatric hospital.  The entire game is told through the reporter's handheld camera, using night vision to explore darker areas.  On a side note, when this game was first announced, the trailer almost gave me a panic attack.  I look forward to seeing Beef's thoughts.

Rory called dibs on Costume Quest 2 (my first choice for this year).

This brilliant game by Double Fine productions is a comedy RPG that takes place on Halloween.  Play as a group of friends as they collect candy and battle an evil dentist bent on destroying Halloween forever.

Look forward to our thoughts on these games as we get near the end of October.  Let us know what scary games you are planning on playing this Halloween.

Episode 13 Video Game Blowout

This week Big O is joined by very special guest Rory and they decided to talk about the greatest thing on the planet, video games.  From Dark Souls to Mass Effect, these two discuss some of the best franchises to appear in the last console generation.  Bethesda is awesome, let's throw a bit of that in there too.  Who else is excited for Fallout 4?  Whether you're a casual video game fan or hardcore super player, this is a great show.

WCNC is Still at Disneyland

Join the West Coast Nerd Corps in the epic conclusion to their Disneyland adventure.  I want to take this moment to invite all of our listeners to share their favorite Disney memories.  Do you have a funny story from Disney World when you were 10?  Was there a Disney movie that touches you even to this day?  We want to hear about it.  Feel, don't conceal and tell us what you love about this company that owns our childhoods.
